by Meyer Friedman | Sep 12, 1985

ISBN-10: 0449208265
ISBN-13: 978-0449208267

These two books are quite helpful. These are not specifically about generalized anxiety disorder, but I have recommended them to numerous patients through the years who have generalized anxiety disorder and they seem to have really helped. Patients are particularly benefited by a rather long list of concrete suggestions one could make in daily life that could help. One suggestion was to part ways with your watch if you are too time pressured. I treated a highly placed executive with generalized anxiety disorder who actually give up his watch. He subsequently improved. It must not have bothered his career to live without a watch as he was subsequently promoted to head European operations for a major Fortune 500 corporation! The reader might also pick up a copy of The Anxiety Disease by David Sheehan M.D., or Panic Disorder by W. Kernodle (see above) and read about medications called benzodiazepines: alprazolam, diazepam. You might also ask your physician for information about a medicine called Buspar which may be helpful for this disorder in some persons.
